What Happens in the Incite Futures Labs?

Q: How does strategic foresight work? How do you help people know how to do it?

A: Strategic foresight helps ministry leaders become adept at navigating the complexities of VUCA—Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. It employs methodologies such as STEEPLES (Social, Technological, Economic, Environmental, Political, Legal, Educational, and Spiritual) analysis and scenario planning, offering a multifaceted view of potential futures. This approach elevates beyond conventional strategic planning to encourage a culture of strategic thinking.

In the Incite Futures Labs, our methodology is structured around five stages, incorporating hands-on activities that enrich learning experiences. The five stages are conducted in labs over the course of 6-8 weeks. There are two online meetings and two in-person labs. They cover an introduction to foresight literacy, comprehensive horizon scanning to identify emerging trends, and immersive foresight practice sessions. Each segment, including the crucial areas of foresight literacy, horizon scanning, and practical foresight applications, is highly interactive, ensuring participants learn and apply foresight principles in ways directly relevant to their ministry contexts.

Through this structured yet dynamic process, leaders gain the skills and insight to act as futurists within their specific environments, ready to leverage their newfound foresight capabilities.
