Futures Thinking in the Ministry Context
I have been working to contextualize the use of strategic foresight in ministry. As I talk to ministry leaders about it, I've encountered questions about futures thinking in the faith-based non-profit context. It might be helpful to unpack a few of these in a series of posts.
Q: Could you talk about what you are doing in strategic foresight? What is foresight?
In strategic foresight, we're essentially navigating the complex terrain of tomorrow by considering multiple possible futures. It's about accounting for uncertainty and using a systematic process to harness the information already available to create scenarios useful for strategic decision-making.
What sets Foresight apart is its collaborative nature. As Change expert John Kotter discusses, in times of change, “we need more leadership from more people.” Incite Futures Labs helps leaders come together to imagine and talk about the future systematically and strategically.
As one leader told me, the labs give leaders the space and permission they usually don’t give themselves to think together.
